Introduction
Windy Ridge is a quirky and idiosyncratic house built using reclaimed materials around the shell of two old farm cottages. Consequently both the ground and first floors have varying levels with steps between them (a ramp is available to facilitate access to the dining room.)

Pre-Arrival
We are located in a narrow unlit country lane; the nearest bus stop is about ½ mile away so Windy Ridge is not ideal for those with their own transport.
Whitstable railway station is at the far end of town about 2 miles away.
A local taxi firm has an office just outside the station.
We have 2 dogs and 1 cat. We no longer accept guest's dogs but there is a small and informal kennels two doors away.
Our brochure can be provided in large print if required.

Arrival and Car Parking
Directions to Windy Ridge are under the ‘Contact' tab on the website.
Our standard check in time is between 5:00 and 7:30 pm.
Please advise us if you anticipate an earlier or later arrival time so that someone is at home to let you in.

Back Door
The garden path is of fairly uneven paving.
There are three steps up to the back door.
Front Door
Some may find the front door to be easier access but be careful setting down passengers in the narrow lane.
There is a shallow step down and another up. This can be bridged if requested in advance.

Public Areas
The house is centrally heated; the radiators in guest bedrooms have thermostatically valves. The house is not heated throughout the day.
There is a guest WC on the ground floor. It is not possible to access this with a wheelchair.
The staircases are fairly steep.

Guest Bedrooms
Details and photographs of our rooms can be found under the ‘Rooms' tab on the website.
The Musicians' Room on the ground floor is accessible by wheelchair with a carer.
Please discuss your specific needs with us in advance. The room has grab rails and a shower seat in the large bathroom. Please note that there is low hearth in the bedroom which needs to be negotiated in order to pass the end of the bed.

Gardens
Windy Ridge is on the top of a hill (a ridge!) There are steps down from all of the external doors but the gardens are nice and the views are fantastic.

Additional Information
A new fire detection and alarm was installed in November 2007. It has been inspected and approved by Kent Fire and Safety.   It is illegal to smoke inside Windy Ridge. Smokers' chairs, ashtrays and shelter are provided on the patio.

Future Plans
We hope to lay new carpet in the sitting room, stairs and landing.
We hope to ensure that digital TV services are available in the guest bedrooms (when a digital signal is available here!)
